The Drug Hotline

The Drug Hotline was an automatic, telephone-based service that provided a conversational mode with the caller using automatic speech recognition (ASR) and text-to-speech (TTS) conversion. The ASR module was capable to recognise the names of about 5,000 drugs and the command words of the dialogue system. The TTS module (ProfiVox triad), could read aloud the text of the patient information document (or part of it). The automatic speech recognition was also developed by BME TMIT. The project was prepared in cooperation with the National Institute of Pharmacy from government support. It was operated (updated, maintained)by OGYI for several years. Both the ASR module and the TTS one were designed to recognise and pronounce the technical terms in pharmaceutical texts. It was a popular service and was used also by doctors.
