Speaking NAO robot

Robots can also speak if they have a speech synthesizer. The BME TMIT SmartLab research group integrated the ProfiVox-diad low-resource Hungarian TTS speech synthesizer into the NAO robot and presented it in many places, including at the 2012 Researchers' Night. In the framework of a project, they started cooperation with the Hematology and Stem Cell Transplantation Department of the Szent László Hospital in Budapest to make the up to 100 days confinement of children undergoing bone marrow transplantation in a sterile room more bearable. Together with the hospital’s innovative medical team, they investigated how sick children react to the robot, how much the little talking ‘man’ colors their everyday life.
